Tell us which enhancements you most want to see in Blue Willow Square!

The City of Vaughan recognizes the value local parks and greenspaces bring to communities and families. That’s why the City has allocated approximately $200,000 in Section 37 funding to improve Blue Willow Square (located at 99 Blue Willow Dr.).

Today, the square contains a small play structure, a central gathering area with a fountain, benches and trellises, a modest garden, trees and open greenspace. City staff have identified several potential park enhancements for the surrounding community’s consideration:

  • Option A: Shade structure
  • Option B: Pollinator garden and naturalized planting
  • Option C: Central area upgrades
  • Option D: Playground enhancement
  • Option E: Outdoor fitness area

The City is also seeking community feedback on the best use of the open greenspace in the park.

As not all five presented options can be implemented within the available budget, the City is seeking your input! Which of these options do you feel will most benefit the neighbourhood?

The shade structure (Option A) is located to the southeast of the existing playground, the pollinator garden and naturalized planting (Option B) is west of the existing central area and playground, the central area upgrades (Option C) and playground enhancements (Option D) are in their existing locations, and the outdoor fitness area (Option E) is located south of the existing playground.

Why Blue Willow Square?

Sometimes, when a new development is built, the developer is asked to contribute community benefit funding that can be used to fund local enhancements to public services and community infrastructure, including parkland. Another name for these contributions is Section 37 benefits.

The City secured Section 37 funding from a development at 7777 Weston Road and selected Blue Willow Square to receive approximately $200,000 of this funding for potential enhancement opportunities.

GET INVOLVED!

Engagement on Blue Willow Square is now closed.

The City held an in-person open house on Tuesday, March 21 to share the enhancement options and collect feedback from the community. Following the open house, from Wednesday, March 22 to Wednesday, April 5, the City invited residents to complete a survey to review, rank and comment on the proposed enhancements to Blue Willow Square.

Thank you to those who participated! Your feedback will help shape the future of Blue Willow Square by informing which enhancement options are selected for implementation. With your input, we hope to create a reinvigorated space where your community can gather, relax and play.
