Vaughan Complete Streets Guidelines

A Complete Street is defined as a street that is safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, whether they are walking, biking, taking public transit or driving. Using a Complete Streets approach to design Vaughan’s street network will create spaces that allow all street users to travel safely and enjoyably — not only motorists.

Vaughan has a complex and diverse public and private street system, where the size, use, character and priorities for each street vary across each community and the city as a whole. To create an efficient, safe and diverse street system, the City is developing Complete Streets Guidelines.

The guidelines will help planners and designers incorporate the proper necessities such as cycling facilities, sidewalks, enhanced landscape elements, dedicated transit lanes and measures to slow down traffic when building or updating public streets. When complete, the Vaughan Complete Streets Guidelines will inform City decisions related to transportation planning, capital infrastructure projects, development applications, streetscape design and construction.

For more information on what a Complete Street is and why they’re important, check out our Complete Streets Primer (PDF).

Thank you to those who participated! The feedback collected will help the City understand the current opportunities and challenges faced by those using Vaughan’s streets – and identify potential ideas for how to address those challenges.
