We’re working on the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan – and we want to hear from you! Join the conversation.

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is the city’s emerging downtown core. By undertaking the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan, the City will guide the timely development of parks and open spaces in the VMC, in addition to creating a signage strategy to make the area easier to navigate. The plan presents a rare opportunity to think boldly about the city, the way people understand and move through it, and the role of parks and open space in modern urban life.

Collecting feedback from the community is vital to the success of this plan. Through collaboration with residents and stakeholders, the City is committed to developing a Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan that is innovative, accessible, sustainable and safe, and fosters connectivity, physical activity, health and wellness for all citizens.

How can I get involved?

We want to hear from you! What are your thoughts on parks and open space within the VMC? Have your say by:

  • participating in a survey to provide input on several key elements within the plan, including park features, character, access and more.
  • sharing your ideas on the most important amenities to include in the VMC’s parks and open spaces.

Community feedback will help the City develop a Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan that meets the needs of current and future residents in the VMC.

What we’ve heard to date

It’s important to hear from all stakeholders to understand the issues, strengths and opportunities of the parks and open space in the VMC. We are consulting Local and Regional Councillors, Vaughan staff, external agencies (including provincial and regional bodies and school boards), landowners, developers and community members - like you.

Last fall, we launched an online survey to hear your thoughts on parks in the VMC. We heard from more than 500 participants who said that:

  • parks and open spaces are the most important factor when determining where to live.
  • people are willing to walk for up to 15 minutes to get to a park.
  • people are willing to drive or take transit for at least 15 minutes to use a larger sports field.

We invite you to join the conversation again! Check out the video below to learn more about the current direction of the master plan, informed by feedback collected last fall. Use the digital engagement tools on this webpage to share ideas with your neighbours. As we explore options for the VMC’s parks and open space, our team is listening to your feedback, local knowledge and wisdom.
