With more people living, working and travelling through the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) – Vaughan’s downtown – the City of Vaughan recognizes that the existing VMC Transportation Master Plan requires an update to help guide and manage this growth. Transportation demands in the city’s downtown have evolved since the initial transportation plan was created, including the opening of the VMC TTC subway station in 2017 and the addition of vivaNext bus rapid transit along Highway 7 in 2019.

The revised master plan will confirm community transportation needs and provide a strategy that focuses on street connectivity and accessibility, as well as support for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and vehicles to 2051.

Coinciding with the master plan, the City is also undertaking two Environmental Assessment studies for Millway Avenue and Interchange Way. Both projects will follow the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process and will include opportunities for information sharing and public engagement. The studies will follow the Class EA process to confirm needs, evaluate alternative designs and select a preferred design, examine impacts on the surrounding environment and identify measures to mitigate those impacts. At the end of the studies, two Environmental Study Reports, which document the decision-making process, will be available for public review.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Engagement on the VMC Transportation Master Plan update closed on March 24. The idea board collected feedback on how the City can enhance transportation within the VMC. The interactive map captured thoughts on transportation opportunities and challenges within the study area. The online survey obtained input to help inform the vision and key priorities within the Transportation Master Plan. Your feedback will help the City understand the community’s transportation needs and preferences. Information collected through this engagement will be used to refine options for the multi-modal transportation network and identify a preferred option for the VMC.
